Well, if you believe this I guess you'll believe anything. I'd rather not celebrate death, no matter whose it is. But there you are, why my friends are few and far between I guess. Just not the party animal true Americans are expected to be. When I go to a website like Firedoglake and read the comments celebrating the supposed assassination of a terrorist, you know the kind of comments I mean, that rejoice in the murder of yet another person (no matter how despicable) followed by exclamation points and shouts of victory, as if they were there, I have to wonder at the level of enlightenment of the commenters, and there seems to be a lot more of that kind of shallow, flag waving thinking on FDL these days. Thank God for stalwarts like eCahn and others that can still think for themselves.

Anyway, here are the things that came to mind this morning when i read the supposed news that binL has bitten it:

• A news release in IndiaNews stated that a US official insisted BinL's body would be disposed of in a manner that accorded with Islamic tradition -- but they dumped it at sea.

• Benazir Bhutto (the first woman elected to lead a Muslim state) insisted before she was assassinated in 2007 that BinL was already dead in the mountains. She said she had this on good authority.
• Obama's approval rating has begun to tank lately, so how better to send those low ratings skyrocketing (just as GWB did in 2001 with his in-the-toilet ratings before September 11) than to count major military coup by sending Seals in on a "kill" mission to get the guy George couldn't manage to find and than appearing to be the soul of discretion on TV by resisting the urge to drag the Mission Accomplished banner out again. What a guy!
• This isn't how we do things. Don't try to tell me the US military wouldn't have pics of BinL dead as a doornail to show off to their buddies like the CIA did with Che and the military did with Soddam Insane.

These niggly little items give me pause. But hey, what do I know? Well, what I know is that every time my instincts tell me to be skeptical about believing something I see on the news –particularly given evidence to the contrary, media hype that continues to link BinL to 911 when the FBI wants him NOT for that but for the bombings of embassies (yet the press continues to need a revenge target for 9-11) and given Obama's lack of modesty when he announced this "event", anyone else I would have called it bragging, making sure the dumb americans got it that he directed the whole friggin thing – I'll just reserve judgment.

And so should we all. Don't be distracted from what's really goin on out there in DC, right here at home. And don't make a hero out of Oblimey. He's still a "Third way" guy in liberal clothing, owned by Wall Street. You remember those guys, the ones who will celebrate this day with major profit taking. Like they've always said, just follow the money.
